Must've been a West Coast thing....I've never seen one of these in real-life, in my entire life- but there have been several on this site! Wonder if these had the infamous Mitsubishit 2.6 motors with 9-mile long timing chain???
A ton of these in Vancouver BC. I'm guessing the 2.6 is a North American motor. These are generally Japanese domestic models so probably smaller motors and probably a lot of diesels.
Hi! very interesting site! I have seen some of these here in Montreal Canada... Also, Toyota had a similar version in de 80's, to compete with the popular Chrysler minivan.

That is a JDM model. The picture is a bit dark, but you can see the steering is in the right side of the car
The badging on the back says turbo and intercooled. Very likely to be a diesel
