Wowser! This is one of the nicest Metros I've seen in a LONGggggg time! Actually, if the pics convey an accurate image, maybe the nicest one I've seen, PERIOD!
Stumbled across a whole fleet of these nicely preserved smile-makers last year. It was the The Pacific Northwest Metropolitan Owners Club meetup. Looked like a clown car rumble.
Back when these were new (1961-62), my Dad wanted to buy one of these for my Mom as he wanted to get her a small car for running about town. I thought he once told me they were something like $1500-$1600 brand new out the door, but my Mom refused to drive one as they only came in a manual, and she could never learn to drive one properly! :)
This would have been perfect for her as I was just a wee one (born October '61) and it was just the thing to run errands around town, to the store etc instead of piloting the huge land barges which were the thing back in those days. Nash/Rambler was ahead of the curve back then with their compacts and the others wouldn't follow suit till '59 (Studebaker), and then 1960 for the big three.
Not a 1961. Metropolitans were produced from 1953 to 1961 and sold through '62. This is an earlier model without the later model's trunk lid, vent windows, and single piece rear window.
