Like all Chrysler produzcts, these were fugly....but darn, they were nice cars, with gorgeous interiors (Shame that there's no interior pic of this one!)- GM had it's big Caddys; Ford had it's Lincolns, and back in the day Chrysler was right up there with them with these things. These were truly the last of Chrysler's real luxury cars. IMO, these were actuially better than the Caddys/Lincolns of the day- it's ironic that these disappeared into obscurity, while lesser cars continued.
I truly believe these are great cars and I'm wondering in hindsight if Chrysler should've angled the Imperial as far as price is concerned a little higher than a Buick Electra--Mercury Parklane but lower than a Cadillac or Lincoln . As great as these cars were I personally think during the 50s and 60s Cadillac had the reputation as being the (standard of the world) and Lincoln was in second place respectively. I think the way things are these days the Imperial would've had a chance but back then it was very hard to compete with the top two luxury car makers . I wish Chrysler would've angled the Imperial more as a little step higher than the New Yorker in price ( if they could've afforded it ). Now as far as the 1964-66 Imperial goes these model years are probably the cleanest imperials. 65 is my favorite I love that glass partition over the headlights they remind me of the 1979-81 Dodge Saint Regis in later years
