Could be wrong but as I recall they were an Acura Legend with British-Leyland body and trim. Had totally forgotten about these which is one of the reason this blog is so addictive: never know what will pop up next!

'cook pass babtridge' ? - look it up on youtube or google
... i looked it up, and i am indeed thrilled at my bewilderment.
anyway, i do see the sterling i posted in 2010, poking around town from time to time, but i've never seen another one. pretty funny that ben has photographed [let me count them...] six in the time since.
I worked with a guy in 1992 who had one of these. He said it was half Rover/Acura. He felt it would possibly be a collector car someday. They made a 5-door hatchback as well.
think any of these will ever see a concours event? think any of these will ever survive in any condition to be presented at one?
i used to walk past one every week on childhood ships to the grocery store with my mom. i was just old enough to pick out make/model/year with some confidence based on body panels, headlights, taillights, etc... but this one always stumped me. at the risk of sounding old, this was the era before you had the entire internet at your fingertips 24/7 - not that it would have helped back then anyway - and unless you knew somebody that owned one it might as well have been a one-off.
Hi Iam i Afrika KKenya. I have an old rover 827 sl and i need to refurbish it. I need a refurbished dash board, odometer and seat covers. Pleaes email me on oluoch.jdo@gmail.com or SMS +254733852057 Thanks.
Had an 825 until the water pump failed, so did the mechanic in successfully repairing it. Wound up giving it away for $500 bucks to a mechanic. Went from being worth $5k to 500$ in the course of one afternoon.

Acura V6 drivetrain, with a Rover chassis. Have not seen one in decades...
Just want to say: kudos to Howard for the Alan partridge reference!

In Europe sold as a Rover 820i
Also known as Honda Legend in Europe.
Basically same car, but Rover was assembled in England while Hondas were assembled in Japan so there were differences in quality and pricing.
Sure it's an 89? Just noticed the vanity plate says "90 ROVR"
You're on the ball Linda, thanks!
Sharp looking cars, but only the Brits could turn a Honda into a mechanical nightmare.
Actually, "the Brits" made a pretty solid car that the Japanese tried to mess up.
That may be the best comment in the history of this site.
Made my eyes bulge and my smile go huge.
