You're right Spitfire, this car is awesome! It also has a lot of potential too. If I were a few years younger and had the cash, this car would be here in my driveway getting a major make-over so that we could use it to promote our family business. Besides, it would make a great criminal deterrant. After all, what criminal would come onto your property with a hearse parked in your driveway!
what a superb string of comments to kick off 2015. everyone in great form. nice work, people.
was this a hard one to research, bengo?
sad as i am to see this thing rotting away, there's a part of me that's just relieved that it hasn't been turned into someone's rockabilly kitsch-mobile. maybe that's due to this thing's overwhelming frumpiness. i mean, it's a really ugly car. staggeringly ugly.
best hearse we've posted for sure, and my favorite caddy after this one, which looks like it barely escaped a similar fate.
It's last time on the road was in 63', wonder why it's been sitting so long, there's so many things a hearse can be repurposed for. right now it has that sinister look like the 55 caddy hearse the rogue's drove in the film "The Warriors". oh, and Racing Stripes.
It's last time on the road was in 63', Imagine if it could have been kept on the road (and repaired if needed)... Within four years it could have been sold down in San Francisco during the summer of love 1967…I'm very sure life would have been brought back into that thing.

Now THIS is the way to start 2015. Pure awesomeness.
Goona be six feet under pretty soon if someone doesn't yank it out of there...
What a shame... He should sell it before it sinks completely into the depths of the earth.
I'm pretty sure it's a 1949. Great photos!
This car is almost as good as dead by now: It has sunk several inches to ground and that means it has been standing here a decade or more.
That means that there's no floor or chassis anymore, just rusty dust.
Someone can possibly save the body, but a shame anyway, letting rare cars like this to rot away.
Somebody read it its last rites and then send it off to the crusher.
I'd die for this car.
