Didn't these have the digital dash? I know the next generation Scoobie GL-10s came with a turbocharger and the digi-dash.

I do remember these cars. While American cars stopped making pillarless hard tops (1978 Full-size Chrysler's) being the last of them. Foreign automakers like Mercedes-Benz, Mazda, Datsun, and this model Subaru were still offering the lovely pillarless hardtops. They were only offered in two doors by this point.

I believe the 1984 Subaru was the last true hardtop Japan sent our way. Always thought it was odd that Nissan/Toyota never sold any of their true 4 door hardtops over here they certainly would have been popular!

I had an 81 or 82 GL hardtop. The car was fun to drive, but it got ravaged by the road salt in the north. With only FWD and good snow tires it handled snow better than many 4WD vehicles at the time! Mine had steelies and an analog speedometer.

I had an 86 GL-10 with a turbo and digital dash, 4WD 5 speed, loved that car, but winter road salt got the best of it

One hell of a daily driver, as long as you're not in tin-worm territory.

Leaves on the trees already gone by late september in the pacific northwest? Pardon my ignorance but in new york it still looks like summer.

I've been sitting on these photos for a while, anon. They're probably from last winter. So thanks for the question, and nevermind your ignorance.

I currently drive an '86 GL Wagon (non turbo and analog dash). I bought it this past May for $500 as a temporary car just so I could learn to drive a stick. It had 230k on it, no radio, had a busted tail light, was starting to rust (Thank you Wisconsin roads...) and a leaky exhaust. But on the plus side, the 4X4 still works!

Knowing my luck from experience, I was expecting the thing to die on me in a few weeks. Even though the engine is pretty tired (I wouldn't DARE to drive it on the interstate) it STILL starts and drives whenever I turn the key.

As of now, I'll keep it until at least the end of the year when I start commuting again and go back to driving my truck. But from what I learned about that car this summer, I would love to get another Subaru that I could keep for a long period of time.

Oh, by the way, I like the pics, too!

I just bought one of these 2 years ago: 1984 Subaru GL-10. Black, 4-door, loaded with every option (A/C which still works, auto, sunroof, etc) and ONLY 27,000 original miles!!

Was a one owner, lady could no longer drive and was going to assisted living. Her son did not want it and sold it to me. It is now sitting at my dad's place next to his '57 Chevy Belair.
There was a small issue with the bumper which my dad fixed. And only two dime size rust spots...amazing for Wisconsin. Although I was told the owner never drove in winter and it sat in a heated underground garage.

That's a small, sporty delight. Fantastic alloys and lack of doors.

My first car was an 82 DL 2dr sedan. It was a 5speed and a blast to drive. If I find another one I may have to buy it.

I had the same vehicle except '84. Learned to drive a stick on it. Sadly the electronic dash died before the internet came along with repair options. Lots of good memories including packing it full when I moved out of home and into the real world. Eventually I started a family and bought a minivan. Sold the Subaru to a pizza delivery guy. Sigh.
