That Sunbeam Rapier is the Bomb! Although I don't think "sunbeam" and "rapier" go together as names very well.
That photo of the "deuce and a half" gets my vote as best of the best ofs.
What about the 1976 Pontiac Lemans you posted in May? That car had awesome patina. Also, why not the VW Type 2 double cab you say in May? Those were cool cars.
well, grumpy cat, different cars are interesting for different reasons. the annual best-of list is mostly no-brainer stuff that the mainstream we think will be eye-catching to mainstream folks.
the overlooked, uncelebrated daily drivers that are really at the heart of OPC (like the lemans) are a different category altogether. one of these days we'll do a run-down of our favorite "unremarkable" cars. stay tuned!
I'm so psyched that Grumpy Cat is getting that Lemans! Definitely could have been a best of in my eyes, if we weren't trying to keep the list under 50 cars. Something about it really does stand out from most of the mid to late 70s cars I saw this year. A shame I saw it parked at a paint/body shop not too long after.
What about a "Save the patina! -OPC" sticker? I'd rock one.
Thanks for the quick response. I'm sad to hear the lemans was painted over. Do you have any pictures of it after the repaint? Please tell me it was a respray in the original color!
Also, there was a 1956 IH S-120 that had great patina. Do you consider it one of the "unremarkable's?"
the '56 IH with the hoist was definitely a best-of contender, grumpycat. i think the reason it didn't get picked was that the profile shot was a little cluttered. it looks like there's a bush in the bed and a tree growing out of the cab. ben and i did not discuss the matter, however.
I'll keep an eye out to see if the Pontiac is completed. I think that gorgeous S-120 is a bit too remarkable, if that makes sense. It probably gets a lot of attention from passers by.
This is another one that I think would be well justified on the list, but there just isn't room for everything.
One heck of a Best Of this year, that's for sure.
Found another one.

Any updates on the Lemans?
