As a 12 year old kid just discovering car designs, I loved this model when it came out. Chevy version, too. Rectangular headlamps? Radical! Modern! Chic! 21st Century!

Disco!!!

So rare now. A best-of contender for 2014, fer sure. Thanks for posting.

Actually, disco always sucked. Please retract that part. Let the car live on.

Color-matched rims are always awesome. Love these things; the hatchback/fastback silhouette is sweet.

I second that! A best contender for sure.... For whatever reason you don't see those cars around at all. None of them, Chevrolet Monza, Buick Skyhawk, Oldsmobile StarFire, & Pontiac Sunbird,----Actually I have seen a PONTIAC Sunbird very, very recently. I looked at the registration and I found out it's a 1979 two door notchback in nice condition. I personally think the car survived all these years being in some elderly person's house which probably was just recently handed down. The problem is this car is a long way from Portland it's in the Bronx!!

Truly outstanding find. Candidate for Best of 2014 when that happens. These were not hardy cars and they became cheap wheels pretty fast, with the lack of maintenance that entails.

If you like these check out Roadkill on youtube they super charge a Monza with 5 leaf blowers! Heck check out Roadkill anyway it's great.

HP Kid, thanks for taking up a half hour of my day with that comment :)

I never would have guessed that my favorite model of 2012 would be so loved in 2014, or that we'd find a better one! These comments are the icing on the already cake-like post, as far as I'm concerned.

Now I think we should all take a minute and appreciate the Skyhawk tag in all its glory.

This isn't simply a rare Skyhawk, it looks to be an even rarer Astroroof with the large, fixed Plexiglas panel in the roof. It's hard to tell for sure from the pics, but it looks like it.

Excellent find!

The upper windshield trim and the trim above the doors is what's making me think so. There shouldn't be trim above the doors and the trim above the windshield shouldn't be that big. The stainless band is another one, but I think they put those on non-Astroroof cars too.

If this is an Astroroof, then it's an even bigger candidate for Best Of.

Just saw those underbody slats (visible from the back) that keep the car sucked to the road and straight at VEESIXsupercar speeds.

Looking back at the Skyhawk in the post from 2012, the windshield trim on that Skyhawk is different. I'm more convinced that this is an Astroroof.

I had a Monza hatch in college that I had a love hate relationship with. Horribly built car, but good looking and fun. I always wanted to build a removable roof targa using the glass from an Astroroof as the removable panel.

I owned a 1976 buick Skyhawk! got it in '76 off the showroom floor at Al Smith Buick here in Raleigh. Manual tranny, fully optioned, Silver with red interior and even had the Astroroof! Remember it being glass, not plexi, because a rock hit it coming out of Washington, DC in 1979. The glass did not totally fail, but the impact blew thousands of little chips into the interior, all over my new bride! State Farm Insurance could NOT believe the price it took to replace that top glass. When the baby came, I had to sell it. 1980. Went to a travelling representative here in Raleigh. Always wondered what happened to that Skyhawk.
