I think it is interesting that, even though I've seen these cars around since they were new, they are now old enough that they take on a new type of interest. Even these four door sedans. They just convey a different vibe from todays cars. Nice car, and nice photos.

Hey if anybody is interested the Nypd mostly used Plymouths. 1966 was the only year that they used the Chevrolet. The Model was the Chevrolet Biscayne. I'm pretty sure it's much much similar to this Bel Air . I found this out by looking at some book about Chevrolet police cars and the above was mentioned.
Yeah Rich, it was indeed. The Biscayne being the entry level model. These things were as about as plain as you could get. There was hardly any brightwork anywhere. Saw one on a website called junkyardlife.com. While the NYPD may have used them only a year, Uncle sam bought thousands of them. They were used as Army staff cars. We have a Bel Air sedan being driven around our neighborhood for quite some time now. It has a 283 backed by a Powerglide tranny. Funny thing is the young couple driving it are young enough to be my kids. The car is in original shape, and needs only to have the front bumper and grille straightened. It seems to run well for now, but when I saw it at the market I detected a whiff of burning oil when it drove past me. Talked it over with my MIL, we may buy it.
