The CHMSL suggests this is an '86-'87. I don't blame you for being mistaken though. Amazing how they made this car unchanged for so long and the tacky looking CHMSL doesn't help either.
the color-matched bumper ends and front clip look like a body kit, and the black steelies with chrome rings and white-stripe tires have a "tuner" look, but could it be stock?
Wow, it's in amazingly good shape! It must have been locked away in a senior citizen's garage for a good while. I was about the right age for a few friends to own these. They were economical for the time and a reasonable choice for low-cost transportation.

Uh, the Chevette was NOT replaced by the Isuzu/Suzuki captive imports, DUMMY.
The Chevette lasted alongside them, till it ended in 1987... the Chevy Sprint(Suzuki Swift) debuted in 86, the Spectrum(Isuzu Imark/Gemini) in 85.
Get it right, before you post... knowitall. ;)
The Sprint debuted on the west coast in 1985 and was sold in the rest of the country in 1986.
I own one! And it's my daily driver !
