Fun how the internet draws knowledgeable folks together. I spoke with the owner of this Hanomag a couple of years ago when I first spotted it. She knew next to nothing about it and it was not at all clear to me how she ended up with something this unusual. I offered to help connect her to parts resources in Germany but she didn't seem interested. It has moved around SE Portland quite a bit since, but I don't get the impression that anyone's driving it much. The slightly earlier ones had Borgward diesel engines. But switched to Mercedes Benz diesel engines around '70 or '71 I think.

my quess is,it is one of those eastern block made cars(kind of coping the vw bus).if some one knows anything about this please brake your silence.
They were actually german and were identical twins of Mercedes Benz buses and vans of the time. Dog slow MB diesel engines but really reliable

They were Hanomag designed, based on an old Tempo design, then later sold by Mercedes-Benz as the 206D.
West German.. not DDR.
They were never copied by anyone in Eastern Europe but wee made in India as the Tempo Matador.
