Brings back memories...my parents started out with a series of Darts before moving on to Chryslers. This was back in the days when dad got a new car every 2 years.
Kind of a waste, actually, since you couldn't kill these the Slant-6 Darts. And believe me - I tried.
Dang, why did American carmakers every get rid of vinyl tops? Tell me that doesn't look awesome on this car. I've got a soft spot for every old Dart I see on OPC, my daily driver is a '68 sedan with a slant 6! Thanks for putting this one up!
MY QUESTION IS WHY 3 AMERICAN AUTO MAKERS ARE NOT MAKING SUCH A TOUGH&RELIABLE ENGINES ANY MORE?MY GRANDPA DROVE ONE OF THESE FOR 39 YEARS WITH OVER 400K MILES ON METER&DARN MOTOR IS STILL NOT BURNING ANY OIL(MY YOUNGEST UNCLE IS STILL DRIVING IT EVERYDAY).THANKS FOR THIS AMAZING POST.
Can you please unglue your Caps Lock key? Great looking Dart, love the hubcaps, they compliment the paintjob nicely. Shame about the vinyl roof however.
Wow, this Dart really spoke to me. Something about it makes it just that much better than most other ones I've seen. Love the profile shot; that building is the perfect period-correct piece of architecture for this car. About the vinyl top...too bad. There's a perfect Swinger at an old peoples' home near me. Perfect except for the vinyl top pulling away from the metal and shredding on the top. Sad.
Y'all smokin' stuff. These cars were junk back in the day, bottom of the food chain. (Well, next to AMC at any rate.) Shoddy construction, always breaking down. This is horrible stuff that helped lead to Detroit's downfall.
breaking down was not an obtion in slant6.i drove one for 36 years&550 k miles on it&finally i sold it to some guy who wanted to use it for pizza delivery&he is still driving it in atlanta.never had any major problems with it even i remember back in mid 90's one day i was driving it on freeway&fan belt broke&motor overheated(july in georgia is hell)i called my wife and we went &bought the belt came back put it on&started right up(at the time it had over 400kmiles on it)amazing toughness that can not find any more.
Best of OPC.
