apparently the design inspiration for this car was a shoe box. Makes you wonder how a car like this ever get approved for production when you think of the layers of approval required. Nice photo though.

Mercury Zephyr: the most boring car design ever. But that, honestly, makes it more interesting to look at than the anonymously swoopy compacts made today.

Tony and Anon 2 hit the nail on the head. Great little car, and this one is rocking some awesome faded paint and primer.

Profile makes me wanna take a nap. Those "plate over meshies" hubcaps are pretty sick too. I bet some people have had a lot of fun with this platform on Cardomain.

Well Tony, Justin sad to say but you guys and I are the odd men out again. I actually like this car. Friend had a 2-door, brother had a wagon. Not much to look at, but easy to fix, drive and use- a utilitarian Ford/Merc design. As far as being the most boring- how about the Chevy Citation or the boxier Celebrity?

i wouldn't call it boring at all.

simple, plain, bland, yes--but to a degree beyond anything else you're likely to see.

which doesn't mean i want one, but i'll still photograph the heck out of 'em.

got another one i'm stalking right now.

My uncle drove a brown metallic Zephyr wagon with "wood" trim when I was a kid. It had these same hubcaps....good memories of that car!

This may sound like bs, but I straight owned this little blue baby in pdx. Bought it for a song in my hometown in central oregon from the original owner, who only drove it in town since she bought it new or so she said. All the original trim was in a cardboard box in the trunk with an ancient roll of toilet paper that ended up saving me (and my left sock)from unspeakable indignities on a sleety 84 onramp. Sorry to jump on an old post, just had to tell someone.
