My sister had the previous generation Daytona Turbo. Was a pretty fast car and fun for what was essentially a pimped out K car. The previous generation was more angular and looked a bit like an early Fox Mustang. The clutch was godawful and you had to really stand on the thing to get it to engage. Lots of turbo lag, but that's part of the charm.
You let out the clutch to engage it. Also, the clutches worked fine as long as they weren't half seized due to lack of lubricant. In stock form they had what might be perceived as turbo lag but it was actually the ECU controlling the boost. Hook up a granger valve and the boost snapped right up and stayed up until you let off the gas. If you could launch the car right in the Shelby model you could hang with a stock 5.0 of the same year right up to 5th gear. $30 granger and muffler removed and you'd hang with the Cobra's.
