Might need to talk to the owner sometime, I know the number of 4 doors built is not exactly known. I wonder if he has the scoop on the number made that year or something. Luckily this lives across the street from our parents' house.
I haven't yet figured out if the car looks great or hilariously ugly. It def grows on you though. But then again, I love Pontiac Aztecs, so my taste could be up my @$$
I'm the poster. I really love Avantis, but had no idea that anything like this one existed until I saw it.
Every time we come to visit my parents (who live 3 or so houses down), I eagerly look to see if the Avanti is out. Will definitely try and say hi on my next trip to Renton.
Ben, stumbling across this again, I thought I'd answer the question you posed: I have a registry of 1990 Avanti Luxury Touring Sedans (as the 4-door was known) and believe there to have been 90 models completed, although once the corporation went bankrupt, I heard there were some that were completed and sold. I've never been able to verify that. They are built on Caprice chassis and drive trains. All you need to keep on the road is a regular auto parts store and, if needed, a good fibeglas specialist :-) In fact the body has a layer of Kevlar - wonder if that makes it like a bullet-proof vest!
